How to Use Deep-Sky Planner 9 Observing Plans with Astrophotography Tool (APT)
You can use the planning capabilities in Deep-Sky Planner to create observing plans and use them in APT 3.30 or later.The procedure is simply this:
- Use Deep-Sky Planner to create plan documents (file extension is .dsplan).
- Export the plan documents into APT object list format. See details
- Import object list into APT. See details.
- Use the observing list in APT. Please see documentation for your version and edition of APT.

Exporting Plans to Observing Lists
Observing Plan documents (.dsplan) that are produced by Deep-Sky Planner 9 can be exported for use in APT 3.30 or later. Open the plan that you wish to export to APT, then select File | Export Plan to App | Astrophotography Tool.
Importing a Plan into APT
The example below was produced with APT 4.50.
1. Open APT and select the Tools tab.
2. On the Tools tab, select Objects button (in the Object Calculator groupbox) to open the Object Browser.
3. On the Object Browser, select the Custom tab.
4. On the Custom tab, select the Import List button. Choose the file created by Deep-Sky Planner for import.
Objects from the Deep-Sky Planner plan file are added to those on the Custom tab.
