Document Types

The following document types are supported by Deep-Sky Planner: See Installation Folders for the default locations of these files.

Asteroid Ephemeris	astcalc	Calculate ephemerides for selected asteroids over a selected time period, and display a tabular report
Asteroid Search	astqry	Search for asteroids using various criteria that you specify, and display a tabular report
Comet Ephemeris	cmtcalc	Calculate ephemerides for selected comets over a selected time period, and display a tabular report
Comet Search	cmtqry	Search for comets using various criteria that you specify, and display a tabular report
Darkness Graphic	drkcalc	Calculate ephemerides for the sun and moon, calculate times of astronomical darkness, and display a graphical report.
Darkness Text	drkcalc	Calculate ephemerides for the sun and moon, calculate times of astronomical darkness, and display a tabular report.
Deep-Sky	dsoqry	Search any of the available deep-sky catalogs using various criteria that you specify, and display a tabular report.
Brief Observing Log	logqry	Search the observing log using various criteria that you specify and display a tabular report (excluding images and media)
Detailed Observing Log	logqry	Search the observing log using various criteria that you specify and display a report (including images and media)
Brief Planet Ephemeris	plncalc	Calculate ephemerides for sun, moon, and planets, and display a tabular report.
Detailed Planet Ephemeris	plncalc	Calculate ephemerides for sun, moon, and planets, incluing physical ephemerides for supported bodies, and display a report.
Planet Events	evtcalc	Calculate times of solar, lunar and planetary events, and display a report.
Star	stoqry	Search any of the available star catalogs using various criteria that you specify, and display a tabular report.
Observing Plan	dsplan	Compose a list of objects and Run them using various criteria that you specify, and display a report.

Other files produced and used by Deep-Sky Planner.

The distinction between the files shown below and the documents listed above is that the file types below are not registered types with Windows. Thus, they can not be opened or printed from the Windows Explorer.

File Extension	Usage
equip	Import/export file containing observer and equipment data, e.g. barlows, cameras, eyepieces, filters, instruments. You can use these files to make backup copies of your observer and equipment data using the Observer Browser and various equipment browsers. You can also download equipment files from the Deep-Sky Planner Community (Community \| Browse Community).
location	Import/export file containing location data. You can use these files to make backup copies of your observing locations using the Location Manager.
obslog	Import/export file containing observing log data. You can use these files to make backup copies of your observations using the Observation Browser or the Observing Project Manager.
obses	Import/export file containing observing session data. You can use these files to make backup copies of your observing sessions using the Session Browser.
zip	Archive files used in the Backup and Restore functions.
