Working with Documents

Several types of documents are available in the product, each offering different capabilities. Generally, documents are used to:

define a database search request or an ephemeris calculation request

hold the resulting report

Documents can be:

opened for viewing and editing in a tab (more than one document can be open on the desktop at a time)

tabs can be dragged to change the order of documents on display

saved to local or cloud storage (OneDrive) for future use (see Windows Integration)

printed or previewed

New documents can be created by selecting New on the File menu, or by pressing the speed button on the tool bar for the document type you desire. Each speed button has a popup hint that indicates which type of document it produces.

Each document is shown in a multi-pane window. The upper document settings pane has multiple tabs containing all of the controls you use to specify the calculation or search request. After you Calculate, Search or Run, the result is displayed in the lower report pane. You may resize these panes by positioning your mouse cursor over the divider (the mouse cursor changes to a resize cursor), clicking and dragging the pane divider up or down, and releasing the mouse button. When you close the document, the pane size and layout are saved so that the next time you open a document of the same type, it is displayed the same way. The first time you open a document type, the program makes a best guess at displaying the document. You can adjust the window size and panes to suit your monitor size, and these settings will be used next time you open the same document type.
