Session Browser

Session Browser is used to maintain observing sessions in the Observing Log. To learn about equipment/ log browsers in general, please see Equipment/Log Browsers.

Browsing Pane

Sessions shows a list of the dates, times, LT (local) or UT (universal), and locations of all observing sessions in the Observing Log. Select an entry to edit, delete or view its properties. Double-clicking a session opens it in the property pane for editing.

Clicking in the title bar of one of the columns sorts the data by that column; clicking again in the same column toggles the sort order between ascending and descending order. You can turn off sorting in a column by Ctrl-clicking the column's title bar. You can sort by multiple columns by Shift-clicking.

You can resize and move columns too. To resize, move the cursor to the dividing line between column titles. Once the cursor changes to indicate resizing mode, drag the column to the desired width. Click and drag a column to move it. The green arrows indicate the 'drop' position.

Date Filter allows you to restrict the sessions shown in the list by showing only those whose Beginning date match this filter. Enter a date, select a comparison option and click Apply.

None: removes the filter (shows all sessions)

Before: shows all sessions on or before the filter date

On: shows all sessions on the filter date

After: shows all sessions on or after the filter date

For example, to see all sessions that begin on 1 Dec 2009 or before, enter 1 Dec 2009 in the Date Filter, click Before then Apply.

Close closes the browser.

Property Pane

Location allows you to specify the location from which you observed. This defaults to the favorite location.

area filter allows you to specify an Area filter that limits the locations shown in Location to those in a specific area. Click area filterto set an Area Filter.

location allows you to create a new a location for the session. Click locationto open the Location Editor.

Beginning allows you to specify the date and time at which your observing session begins. This value is also used as an initial date and time for observations that are added for this session. Any observation added for this session must have a date and time equal to or following the Beginning date and time of the session.

Ending allows you to specify the date and time at which your observing session ends. This value may the same as the Beginning date and time if desired - this indicates to the software that observations can be added for this session as long as the observation date and time equal or follow Beginning. If the Ending date and time is not the same as Beginning, all observations added for this session must fall between the Beginning and Ending date and times, inclusively.

Times are Local or Universal allows you to specify whether the beginning and ending times of the session, and the times of observations made during the session are recorded in local time (LT) or universal time (UT).

Notes allows you to record any comments about your observing session. This value is not required.

Save stores changes to the database and returns to browsing.
