Delete Item Options

The item (instrument, eyepiece, filter, camera, barlow/compressor, or observing session) that you are trying to delete from your Observing Log is used by at least one observation. This is a problem because if the item is deleted, the observations that used it become invalid. You can choose to resolve the problem in one of three ways. The best solution is determined by how you want to treat observations in your Log.

1. You really want your observing records to remain historically accurate even though you may no longer use the item. You should choose to Cancel the delete operation. This option stops the delete operation and leaves all data intact. You can choose to Disable the item so that it does not appear in item lists for new observations or the Equipment Bar.

2. You really want to delete the item but you are unwilling to lose the affected observation(s). You can choose to Change all observations that use the item you want to delete so that they use a different item. Once that change is made, no observations use the item you wanted to delete so it can be deleted safely. This option may make your observing records historically inaccurate but otherwise useful.

3. You really want to delete the item and you don't mind losing all observations that use the item. You can choose to Delete the item.
CAUTION! This option deletes every observation that refers to this item. If you want to preview which observations might be deleted by this option, use the Brief Observing Log document or the Detailed Observing Log document to find them.

WARNING! There are no further opportunities to stop the delete operation after you close this dialog box. When you close this dialog box, data is changed and/or removed if you selected option 2 or 3 above.

Press OK to close the dialog box. Press Cancel to stop the delete operation, leaving all data intact, and close the dialog box.
