Yearly Altitude

Yearly Altitude detail tab page graphs an object's movement in altitude at a selected time of day over the course of a year. The units depicted are: y-axis = degrees of altitude and x-axis = (bi-monthly) date. The location used for the graph is determined by the location selected in the document.

Show Legend toggles the display of the graph's legend information. Click once to see the legend and again to dismiss it.

Twilight allows you to turn on or off the graphical gradient that depicts daylight conditions for the day. Links to twilight definitions follow:

astronomical twilight

nautical twilight

civil twilight

Time of Day (LT) allows you to select a time of day for the altitude calculations. Time is shown in the format selected in Preferences. The time of day is corrected for daylight saving time changes if your observing location has daylight times defined.

Items Shown in the Graph

Blue line depicts the object's altitude at a given time.

Background shading depicts daylight conditions for the year. The conditions shown are sun up, civil twilight, nautical twilight, astronomcal twilight and darkness. Select Show Legend to display the colors used to depict each condition. Background shading can be enabled and disabled by clicking Twilight.

 


What about?

The graph may have some unusual 'bumps' in it. This usually indicates a change to daylight saving time or to standard time at your location.
