Compact Database
Compact Database performs housekeeping functions on your database. As you add, delete and edit items in your database, the file expands in size. Compacting the database can eliminate some of the wasted space in the file and improve performance. This feature is available only when all document tabs are closed.
After selecting Compact Database, you are asked to confirm that you want to proceed with the operation. Once you confirm that you want to proceed, you must not interrupt the process. Doing so may result in a corrupted database. A status box shows that the operation is working, and notifies you when the operation has completed.
Note:
Compacting actually creates a new working database file during the operation so that your original file is not removed until the compacting operation has completed. This is done to help protect your data from loss or corruption. Even so, it is recommended that you make a backup copy of your database file before compacting.
If you do not use the Location Editor, Equipment/Log Browsers or any of the the Observing Log features to make changes to your database, you do not need to compact your database; conversely, the more you use these features, the more you may need to compact your database.
