Community

The online Community holds resources for Deep-Sky Planner Desktop and Mobile Editions (DSPME). These resources include observing plans and equipment lists.

Resources are available through the Deep-Sky Planner Community on the Knightware website. You can access these resources directly through DSPME. First you request a list of resources and then you download the desired resource. Status shows the status of your request. If it fails, an error message explaining the failure is displayed temporarily.

Observing Plans

To download observing plans, under Show Plans in the Community tap either:

Latest to retrieve the names of the most recently uploaded plans in the Plan Library.
One of the combo box entries:
- Deep-Sky - plans that contain Deep-Sky objects
- Binoculars - plans specifically designed for binocular observing
- Magazines - plans that accompany articles in astronomy magazines
- Books - plans that accompany popular observing books
- Web Articles - plans that accompany online observing articles
- Organizations - plans that accompany observing lists created by organizations
- Double Stars - plans that contain Double Stars
- Variable Stars - plans that contain Variable Stars
- Carbon Stars - plans that contain Carbon Stars
- Stars - plans that contain Stars
- All to retrieve the names of all plans in the Plan Library. There are several hundred so please be patient.

Once the list of plan names is shown, you can scroll to the plan you wish to download and tap Get. The plan is downloaded and stored on your device. You can view the plan in Plans.

Equipment Lists

To download equipment lists, under Show Equipment in the Community tap either:

By Mfg to retrieve equipment list names sorted by manufacturer.
By Type to retrieve equipment list names sorted by equipment type (Eyepieces, Camera, etc).

Once the equipment list names are shown, you can scroll to the list you wish to download and tap Get. The list is downloaded, stored on your device and imported into your database. You can view the equipment in Equipment.

Search box

You can search a list of equipment or plans after it has been downloaded and displayed. Tap the search box and enter a few letters using the virtual keyboard to filter the list.

[Android users: close the virtual keyboard by tapping the Android Back button.]

[iOS users: close the virtual keyboard by tapping the close keyboard key on the virtual keyboard.]

Clear the search filter by tapping the X button in the search box. This restores display of the entire list.
