Using Deep-Sky Planner 6 with Starry Night
This article describes some recommendations for using Deep-Sky Planner 6 with Starry Night 7 & 6.x on Windows 7, 8, or 10 (32 or 64 bit).
- Starry Night Enthusiast or higher edition is required for the Show Chart interoperation feature to work in Deep-Sky Planner 6.
- Locate the DsSN60.plug file in your Deep-Sky Planner 6 installation. If you installed Deep-Sky Planner with the recommended settings, this should be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Knightware\Deep-Sky Planner 6\DsSN60.plug where <username> is your Windows user account name. Copy SN60.plug to your Starry Night plug-ins folder. The folder should be like:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Starry Night Pro Plus 7\Sky Data\Plug-ins for 64-bit Windows
- C:\Program Files\Starry Night Pro Plus 7\Sky Data\Plug-ins for 32- bit Windows
- Note that the plugin DsSN60.plug was updated in release 6.2.2.0 to address an issue with running Deep-Sky Planner and Starry Night on a computer whose Windows regional settings define the decimal separator character as comma rather than period. If you typically see decimal numbers on your computer like 3,14 instead of 3.14, you need this updated plugin. You can get the plugin by logging into the Deep-Sky Planner Community and visiting the Software Updates page or by visiting Help | Check for Updates in Deep-Sky Planner.
- Run Starry Night with 'Run as Administrator' option on Windows 7, 8 or 10.
- Run Deep-Sky Planner 6 with 'Run as Administrator' option on Windows 7, 8 or 10.
Always start Starry Night before attempting a Show Chart command in Deep-Sky Planner. Program interoperation requires elevated runtime privileges. If you have problems connecting to Starry Night from Deep-Sky Planner, the problem is most likely one of the following:
- Starry Night is not running
- Starry Night did not load the Deep-Sky Planner plug-in. Check Help | About Plug-in | Deep-Sky Planner and verify that you are running the plug-in for Deep-Sky Planner 6
- Starry Night is not running as administrator
- Deep-Sky Planner is not running as adminstrator
Deep-Sky Planner 6 has been tested with Starry Night 7.0 Pro Plus and Starry Night 6.4.3 Pro Plus
